Dr. Leslie Osei-Tutu’s Kidney Donation Saves Her Son’s Life

For Dr. Leslie Osei-Tutu, an Envision anesthesiologist, National Donor Day has a particularly special meaning. Her son, Omari Pooser-Bennett, was diagnosed with a rare, incurable condition in his late 20s that led to kidney failure and required dialysis. As a mom, she was determined to do whatever it took to help him.

"In order for Omari to receive a Kidney, I had to donate mine," Dr. Osei-Tutu said.

While they were not a direct match, Dr. Osei-Tutu donated her kidney to another recipient, which enabled someone else to donate their kidney to Omari. Omari now has a second chance at life.

"Living donation is real, and it's lifesaving," she said.
