2024.04.01 The Muse

A new major shift of the IAC this year was to divide the state into six distinct regionsallowing Program Directors to oversee entire communities as opposed to artistic disciplines. The Muse will feature its Program Directors over the next few months so you may better get to know who will be working within your community. Susan Dickson is responsible for the the Eastern Region as well as Chicago's Metro Region 3. Please refer to the Region Mapand the Regional Program Director Finderpage on IAC's website to determine your respective Program Director.

Susan Dickson was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio where she also attended college and began her professional career in the arts. She has lived in Chicago since 1992 and has been a Program Director with the Illinois Arts Council since 2007. During her tenure with the IAC, she has served as the Program Director for a variety of programs including, Arts-in-Education, Dance, Ethnic & Folk Arts, Literature, Media Arts, Partners-in-Excellence, Presenters Development, Theatre, and Visual Arts. She has also served as the statewide coordinator for the Illinois Poetry Out Loud program, a joint venture with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation since 2008. In 2009 and 2012 she coordinated the Midwest Folklife Festival, a multi-state festival held in Bishop Hill, Illinois. She looks forward to working with the communities, artists, and arts organizations in the Eastern Region.
