Work continues at pace to bring to life the exciting regeneration plans for the Sherwood area, including a new Ollerton town centre Hub and the development of Mansfield Road in Clipstone, as part of the government's Levelling Up Fund.

The District Council has stated that it is continuing to work closely with partners to develop plans and forward-fund any necessary work. It is currently finalising the Ollerton town centre regeneration project's design and details, following engagement with the public, with the hope of submitting a planning application later this year. More information on the project can be found on the District Council's website here: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/ollertonregen/

Plans for the new town centre for Ollerton will enhance and promote the town's thriving community spirit and allow better connections to draw visitors into the area. It will include a new public sector service hub where residents can access support easily, a brand-new state-of-the-art library and community space, a cinema, and an improved retail space.

In addition, in Clipstone the funding will be put towards building a new energy-efficient and sustainable industrial estate for businesses both local and national as well as a relocated and enhanced Sports Hub alongside Clipstone Miners Welfare Trust, which will improve facilities in both quality and quantity for Clipstone residents. Also, plans are in place for an improved Vicar Water Country Park with aspirations for education facilities, improved access and Park Ranger facilities.

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council said: "We remain absolutely committed to delivering these projects for Sherwood. The Government has allocated us £20million for these transformative plans but as of yet they haven't released the funding. To ensure progress on these projects continues and we're not just sitting and waiting, we are funding the gaps where we can. For example, we are forward funding necessary works n Ollerton, we are also exploring match funding opportunities..

"These transformative projects for Ollerton and Clipstone will be crucial in helping the Sherwood area thrive, allowing residents and businesses to fulfil their potential and provide more opportunities for leisure, jobs and education."

In November 2023, it was announced the District Council was one of 55 places nationally to be successful in securing its full ask of £20million of the government's Levelling Up Round 3 funding.
