The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues continues its work

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is holding its 23rd session in New York from April 15 to 26.

The Forum is attended by representatives of UN agencies and bodies, international organizations, indigenous peoples, as well as governmental structures of national states.

The central theme of the 23rd session was "Strengthening indigenous peoples' right to self-determination in the context of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: highlighting the voices of indigenous youth".

The Russian delegation included representatives of indigenous NGOs from Krasnoyarsk and Kamchatka Krai, Yamal and Yugra, Murmansk Oblast, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), as well as winners and finalists of the second season of the all-Russian educational program "School of Public Diplomacy". They shared Russian experience in 6 areas defined by the Permanent Forum's mandate: economic and social development, culture, environmental protection, education, health care and human rights.

Associate Professor of the Higher School of Digital Economy at Yugra State University (YUSU), coordinator of the Association of Finno-Ugric Universities, Vice-President of the public association "Saving Yugra" of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, coordinator of the Russian-Asian Consortium of Arctic Studies from YUSU Tatiana Dyatlova took part in the Forum.

"Our representatives of indigenous peoples share positive experience and new developments in the field of protection of indigenous peoples' rights, which can serve as a good example for the world community and representatives of states and indigenous peoples. Today is really a time not for slogans, but for work. Teamwork and coordination in all regions of the Russian Federation," shared Tatiana Dyatlova.
