City of St. Petersburg Celebrates St. Pete's Bike-Friendliness with a Community Bike Event on March 2

Feb. 28, 2024)- The City of St. Petersburg is hosting the Bike Your City 2024 group ride, a partnership with Forward Pinellas, on Saturday, March 2, from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Returning for its eighth year, this free, family-friendly event is a group bike ride to celebrate the month of March as Florida Bicycle Month by highlighting the bicycle and trail network across Pinellas County.

St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch and City Council Member John Muhammad will be in attendance.

This guided, slow bike ride is an 8-mile round-trip tour. Riders will learn about roadway safety and trail etiquette while exploring local amenities and enjoying the relaxing scenery the trails have to offer.

As a part of this event, the League of American Bicyclists will be honoring the City of St. Petersburg with a Silver-Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award for the efforts of the City to build better places for people to bike. St. Pete joins 480 communities across the country in the movement for safer streets and better bicycling for everyone.

The award recognizes St. Pete for its commitment to creating transportation and recreational resources that benefit its residents of all ages and abilities while encouraging healthier and more sustainable transportation choices. St. Pete has been focused on curating a bike-friendly community, with implementation of bike share, e-bikes and scooters, walking trails, and more.

PLEASE NOTE: The opening ceremony will be held at Childs Park Recreation & Fitness Center at 9:30 a.m. The ride will start immediately following the opening ceremony. Everyone who enters the ride should be physically able to complete an 8-mile route. Helmets are required for children age 16 and younger and are encouraged for all participants. Free Bike Your City 2024 t-shirts will be available to participants on a first-come, first-served basis on the morning of the event.
