D-14 DCU Arrest Suspect with 17 Grams of Fentanyl in Brighton

At about 7:23 PM, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, members of the District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) Drug Control Unit arrested Ivan Singleton, 63, of Dorchester, on drug trafficking charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of the Fidelis Housing Development to address the ongoing community complaints about drug related activity. Officers observed a female pacing back and forth in the area of Melvin Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. The officers continued to observe the female to make multiple short phone calls, and continued to look up and down Commonwealth Avenue.

At this time, officers observed a motor vehicle pull up to the female, and she entered the front passenger seat. After about two minutes, the female exited the vehicle and walked towards Fidelis Way. Officers believed that a street level drug transaction had occurred, and were able to stop the female suspect. After further investigation, officers recovered crack cocaine from the female suspect.

Drug Control Officers requested the assistance of a marked patrol cruiser to conduct a traffic stop of the suspected motor vehicle. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Sidlaw Road.

Officers advised the suspect of the reason for the stop, and requested him to exit the vehicle. After further investigation, officers recovered from the suspect a pill bottle containing two plastic bags believed to be fentanyl and crack cocaine.

After a motor vehicle inventory search, officers recovered approximately 17 grams of fentanyl, crack cocaine, various loose pills, digital scales, unused glass pipes, other drug paraphernalia, and $575 in US currency.

Singleton was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking of class A, distribution of class B, two counts of possession with intent to distribute class B, and possession with intent to distribute class E. He is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court.

The female suspect is to be summonsed to court for possession of class B.
