OBU's Concerto-Aria Concert Set for Feb. 18

January 10, 2024

The OBU Division of Music will present the 50th annual Concerto-Aria concert in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium Sunday, Feb. 18, on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend the free event.

The first Concerto-Aria concert was organized in 1974 as a way for outstanding musical performers to have the opportunity to appear with a live orchestra and perform repertoire from the great catalogues of piano concertos and opera arias. Some years later, instrumental concertos and other works were added to the performances, including original compositions by student composers.

The Concerto-Aria Orchestra is composed of students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the public. Dr. Timothy Kaiser, assistant professor of instrumental music education, will conduct the orchestra.

Jaylin Anders, soprano and senior music education major from Norman, Oklahoma, will perform O Divine Redeemer, CG 434 by Charles Gounod.

Ryleigh Andrews, soprano and junior music education major from Choctaw, Oklahoma and Catherine Thompson, soprano and senior musical arts major from Shawnee, Oklahoma, will perform the Flower Duet from Lakmé by Léo Delibes.

Cailey Morris, pianist and junior piano performance and pedagogy major from Enid, Oklahoma, will perform "Allegro con brio" from Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Kaitlyn O'Brien, clarinetist and sophomore musical arts major from McKinney, Texas, will perform Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in f minor, Op. 5 by Bernhard Henrik Crusell.

Kaylee Spangler, flutist and sophomore music education major from Glenpool, Oklahoma, will perform Suite de trois morceaux, Op. 116 by Benjamin Godard.
