Finalists for Assistant City Administrator Position Named

A pair of finalists for the vacant City of Bismarck Assistant City Administrator position have been named and will be interviewed next week.

Robert Falcon and Doug Wiles have reached the final interview process that began in March from a pool of 28 applicants.

Robert Falcon serves as the current City Administrator for the City of Lewiston, Minnesota, and has been in that position for about two years. He is a graduate of the University of Mary with majors in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration and holds a Master of Business Administration and an Executive Certificate in Public Administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Doug Wiles has served as the City of Bismarck Forester since 2015. He is a graduate of the University of Mary with a Master's Degree in Public Administration and the University of Idaho with a Master's Degree in Natural Resources Management.

The process to replace the Assistant City Administrator position became necessary after then-Assistant City Administrator Jason Tomanek accepted the role of City Administrator in February. The Assistant City Administrator position is one of three appointed positions, including the City Administrator and City Attorney, within the City of Bismarck's municipal government structure. The primary function of the Assistant City Administrator is to serve as the department director of the Administration Department and this individual reports to the City Administrator.

From the initial pool of 28 applicants, 21 met the position's minimum requirements. The top seven candidates from that group were then determined by a round of screening questions and scoring. These seven individuals were then asked to complete an accomplishment survey that was reviewed and scored by a separate committee. During this process, two applicants withdrew from the process, and the top four advanced to take a General Management In-Basket (GMIB) test. The scores from that test determined the finalists for interviews.

A panel of the Bismarck City Commission will interview the finalists on Monday, April 29, in the Tom Baker Room of the City/County Building.
