Wiltshire Council is continuing its investment into the county's roads by resurfacing the A350 Beanacre Road in Melksham next month.

The work starts on Monday 4 March and will see the road closed at night, from 7pm to 6am each weekday, until Friday 22 March. The road will be open as normal during the daytime and throughout the weekends for the duration of the works. To minimise disruption as much as possible, the work will be completed in phases.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these essential works to resurface this busy part of the A350 in Melksham, but the road is deteriorating and this does need to be done.

"There is, of course, no good time to close a main road, but we are doing all we can to minimise disruption by completing the work in phases and at night, ensuring the road is fully open throughout the day and at weekends. We do recognise that working through the night may cause some disturbance and we apologise to anyone that may be affected by this.

"As part of our Business Plan commitment to have vibrant, well-connected communities and to invest in our highways network, we are spending an extra £10m over the next two years on resurfacing and filling potholes on Wiltshire roads - and this is on top of the £20.7m we receive annually from the Government, the £3.6m from the Government's potholes fund, and £5.2m over the next two years from the Road Resurfacing Fund."

The diversion route will see motorists take the A365 Bath Road towards Shaw just after Farmers Roundabout if heading through Melksham from the south. The diversion then heads to Box before taking the A4 to Chequers Roundabout in Chippenham. Anyone then wishing to access Beanacre, Lacock or other villages in the area can reach them on the A350, heading south from Chippenham.

While the road will be closed to through traffic, access will be maintained where possible and access to Foundry Close will be maintained at all times during the work.

The phases for the work are as follows:

  • Phase one: 4-7 March, work south of Foundry Close
  • Phase two: 8-15 March, work north of Foundry Close
  • Phase three: 18 and 19 March, work south of Foundry Close

During the remaining days, the council will adjust the road's ironwork and install new road markings.
