Bonamici Praises Final Updates to Title IX Regulations

WASHINGTON, DC [4/19/24] - Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici praised the Biden-Harris administration's final Title IX regulations.

"No student should fear for their safety or well-being while in school," said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. "Students, advocates, and policymakers have worked together for years to reverse the weakening of Title IX under the Trump administration's anti-public education agenda, which put students at risk of discrimination, harassment, and assault. I'm grateful to have partnered with the Biden-Harris administration in this effort, and grateful that the updates to Title IX are now final. These new regulations will provide greater protections for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, so they have equal access to educational opportunities."

Bonamici repeatedly denouncedthe previous Administration's changes to Title IX, pressed former Education Sec. DeVos on her failures to protect students, and led the effort to reinstate protectionsfor transgender students.

In the wake of the Dobbs decision, the Congresswoman has also led calls for the Education Department to use its existing authority under Title IX to protect students who are pregnant, have an abortion, or are parenting.
