Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced a non-repayable FedNor investment of $57,500 to help the Daki Menan Lands and Resources Corporation (DMLRC) hire a youth intern to coordinate forestry related activities and help modernize a
community-lead forestry business in the Temagami First Nation.

Working as a Forestry Coordinator, the youth intern will support a variety of activities to help the DMLRC achieve its business goals. This includes preparing bids and proposals, GIS mapping, skills training for forestry crews, and project tracking and data management. The Forestry Coordinator will also support the organization's tree planting, sawmill and firewood production operations, while working to improve the forests of Daki Menan, the traditional territory of the Temagami First Nation.

Providing opportunities for young graduates and connecting organizations and businesses with a skilled and enthusiastic workforce is precisely what this Government of Canada internship initiative is doing in Northern Ontario. Since its inception more than three decades ago, FedNor's youth internship initiative has helped create more than 2500 jobs for youth in Northern Ontario.
