Man Jailed For Dewsbury Store Robbery

The final member of a gang convicted for a robbery in which staff were threatened at a Dewsbury store has now been jailed.

David Droma (21) of Pasture Road, Leeds was sentenced to two years, nine months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Friday (19 April) after being found guilty of robbery in offending at a phone store in Dewsbury in December 2022.

Previously sentenced were Gherman Pitigoi (19) of Bayswater Mount, Leeds who was given a three year sentence in a youth detention facility on March 27, 2023 after pleading guilty to robbery.

A 17-year-old Leeds male (who cannot be named for legal reasons ) was given a youth rehabilitation order on November 29, 2023 after pleading guilty to robbery.

Officers were called to the phone store at the Princess of Wales Shopping Centre at just after 5.15pm on December 20 to a report three males had entered the premises and conducted offences.

One had distracted and then pushed and threatened a staff member while the others ripped out and took away a tabletop containing mobile devices.

A full investigation into the offence was launched by the Kirklees District Crime Team, leading to the identification and arrest of the three males in early January 2023.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Holmes of the Kirklees District Crime Team, said: "We welcome the conviction and jailing of Droma for his role in this serious robbery offence in which a staff member was threatened and high value goods were stolen.

"All three were identified following a range of enquires by the team and have now been brought to justice for their roles in what took place.

"We are aware of the damage such offences cause to business and retail crime of this nature is thoroughly investigated with every available line of investigation explored.

"Our team are regularly bringing persons involved in this kind of criminality before the courts and we continue to urge victims to make reports of all such offending in Kirklees to us."
