Eco-poetry reading group with Olympia Poet Laureate, Kathleen Byrd

April 10 Poetry reading group, 4-5:30pm, The Olympia Center Room 103

On the theme of eco-poetry, Olympia Poet Laureate Kathleen Byrd hosts and facilitates a seasonal poetry reading series. Bring a copy of the book noted below (you don't need to read the entire collection, but should have some familiarity with it). Kathleen will bring additional poems or readings to further our conversation. This series is focused on poetry reading, rather than writing*, but still you might bring a notebook to jot down inspiring thoughts. his reading series is free and sponsored by City of Olympia.

South Sound Studio Tour April 20 & 21

The South Sound Studio Tour invites the community to celebrate the vibrant visual arts in Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey, by visiting 25 studios and 74 artists at this self-guided, annual event. Showcasing the visual arts, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, paper arts and much more, visitors can enjoy a demonstration by the artists in their studios, see their creative spaces and meet the large number of creatives in our community. A visit to the artists' studios opens the door to see where art is made, get to know artists, and support them directly.

Olympia Host Lions Club Seeks Artists for Grant Project
Lions Low Vision Resource Center in Olympia supports folks with failing or limited vision who visit our center to borrow magnifying equipment and to get support and training on how to live better with low vision. We also offer social activities and peer support from people who have experience navigating the world of low vision.

Do you know of any local artists who may have great ideas for an art project they could do with folks with limited or no vision? This could be a one hour project or something done over several sessions. Anything from a table top craft project to a weaving to a mural. The important thing is that this must be a project that empowers the individual with failing vision to create something.

ArtsWA has a grant opportunity open right now for groups providing art programming. We hope to team up with an artist to apply for a small grant for a project to take place sometime from July 2024 to June 2025. And the application deadline is coming up really fast so I would need to connect with possible artists very soon - like the first week of April..
  • You can learn about the grant at https://www.arts.wa.gov/grants/
  • And you can learn more about Olympia Host Lions Club and our work with low vision at OlympiaHostLions.org
  • Questions? Call me at the Lions EyeLine - 360 790-8667 Karen Sell, Past District Governor, Lions International
