Recap of City Council Meeting on April 2

Nearly 40 items were on the agendas of the Broken Arrow City Council, Municipal Authority, and Economic Development Authority meetings on April 2, 2024.

Here's a recap from Tuesday night.

Council has approved to surplus items that have outlived their usefulness to the city. Next month, bargain hunters interested in obtaining used cars, trucks, electronics and more can find a list of items for sale on the City's website.

Council awarded the Iola Street Rehabilitation Project to Tri-Star Construction. The project consists of milling and resurfacing Iola Street from Elm Place to 1st Street, adding a new sidewalk, and adding ADA ramps at intersections. The cost of the project is $293,000 and paid with Community Development Block Grant funds. To read more about this item, click here.

In Presentations, Vice Mayor Christi Gillespie was recognized with a 5-year service pin. Gillespie was first elected as a City Councilmember on April 4, 2019, and was re-elected in 2023. She has served as Vice Mayor since April 20, 2021. During her tenure on the Council, she has served on many boards and committees. Congratulations and thank you for your service and dedication to the City of Broken Arrow!

The Council was provided an update on last year's Scotfest Festival. The presentation included economic impact, financial summary, and a hotel report from last year as well as plans for 2024 which include the festival relocating this year to Central Park in the Rose District. In General Business, Council awarded a construction contract for the Wolf Creek Drainage Improvements Project to R&L Construction. The project addresses stormwater drainage in both the Wolf Creek and Brentwood estates subdivisions. The cost of the improvements is $393,852 and paid with 2018 GO Bond Funds. Council approved electrical panel upgrades and conductivity for Rose District signage and for the Broken Arrow Historical Museum building. The project includes HVAC upgrades to the Museum, Main Street circuit upgrades, and Rose District Gateway signage upgrades. Broken Arrow Municipal Authority

The trustees awarded a Stormwater Grounds Maintenance Agreement with J and J Lawncare. J and J will be responsible for mowing and trimming 70 areas of right of ways, primarily near subdivisions, to maintain the beauty of our city. The contract is for $274,950 and paid with Municipal Authority funds.

Broken Arrow Economic Development Authority

The Broken Arrow Economic Development Authority meeting consisted of the minutes from the second meeting in March, a monthly report of the Economic Development Corporation, and ratification of the claims list. You can view the BAEDA agenda here.
